”I am very inspired by my mother who has always taken the first step towards connecting people”
How do you inspire others to connect?
“It is often reflected in what I do. For example, I once had a young girl who was a refugee and wanted to attend the youth club where I work. Her parents did not like the idea so I invited them over to take a look at the club. The parents, however, were not impressed since there were many young men working there. However, they did get to see and feel the atmosphere there. They tried to be a part of her daily life and to understand their daughter.”
How do you connect with others?
“For me, it is the little steps you take that makes people getting closer. It could be a hello or a smile that makes the difference. I work hard on getting ethnical Danes and refugees to connect and I am very inspired by my mother who has always taken the first step towards connecting people.
“Another example is that there are some young guys in the youth club whom I have inspired to greet and talk to the refugees who also attend the club. It can be very challenging for some to say hi. It turned out that I asked them to play some table football together and suddenly everyone was talking to each other. I chose to unite the youngsters through different activities and it was a success so I am very satisfied.”
